“Reggae Alive”: Crawba Genius Brings a Fresh, Vibrant Take on Reggae’s Timeless Evolution

Reggae has always been more than just music; it’s a movement, an essential part of Jamaican culture and an undeniable force in global music history. For Jermaine Henry, known to the world as Crawba Genius, reggae has never faded, it’s only been evolving. With the release of his latest project Reggae Alive on March 28, 2025, Crawba Genius is making that truth clear, proving that reggae is alive, thriving and more relevant than ever in today’s rapidly changing music landscape.

Crawba Genius, prestigious producer and international selecter, has been at the heart of the reggae and dancehall scenes for years and Reggae Alive showcases his deep understanding and respect for the genre’s roots, while also embracing its growth and transformation. The album features an impressive lineup of artists spanning generations, from legends like Busy Signal, Anthony B, and TOK, to rising stars like Ayetian, Zaila Jazz and Beach Boii.

“I’ve got some of the biggest names in reggae—Busy Signal, Anthony B, TOK—and I’m really proud to have them on this project” – Crawba shared with us – “But it’s also about bringing in fresh talent that’s pushing the genre forward. I always believe in the youngest”.

Reggae Alive is filled with a dynamic mix of voices that span generations, offering a rich, multi-layered listening experience. Veteran voices like Lutan Fyah and Gyptian bring their iconic energy to the project, alongside the up-and-coming Yaksta, whose influence is steadily rising within the reggae and dancehall communities. Crawba is thrilled with the blend of seasoned artists and fresh talents, recognising the importance of striking a balance.

“We have the veterans, we have the middle generation and we have the young artists. That balance is the key” Crawba explained to the press. “The whole idea of this project is to show that reggae is still growing, evolving and, most importantly, still here.”

In addition to the Jamaican legends, Reggae Alive brings an international flair with the inclusion of Costa Rican reggae sensation Toledo. His collaboration with Warrior King, another reggae heavyweight, highlights how reggae continues to transcend borders and unite artists from different cultures. Crawba is proud of this connection, recognising the growing global impact of reggae music.

“We’ve got Toledo, one of the biggest reggae artists in Costa Rica, working with Warrior King,” Crawba said. “It’s a beautiful example of how reggae is becoming more of a global phenomenon. It’s not just about Jamaica anymore; it’s about the whole World.”

And then there’s Beach Boii, an R&B-leaning artist from Florida who’s attracting a younger crowd. His presence on Reggae Alive adds a refreshing, contemporary touch to the album. Crawba points out that Beach Boii’s fusion of R&B and reggae resonates with the younger generation, helping bridge the gap between reggae’s roots and its modern evolution.

“We need voices that the younger generation connects with. Beach Boii is one of those voices,” Crawba said. “He brings a unique sound to the table that’s definitely going to turn heads.”

The youngest artist featured on the project, Zayla Jazz, is perhaps one of the most exciting newcomers. Known for her track Dangerous, Zayla brings an undeniable energy and raw talent that Crawba believes will make her a standout in the reggae scene for years to come.

“Zayla is super talented. She’s just getting started, but, trust me, she’s bringing something special to reggae” Crawba said. “Her song Dangerous is already generating buzz and she’s only going to get bigger.”

What makes Reggae Alive so compelling isn’t just the range of artists—it’s the message. This is a project that blends the past, present and future of reggae, showing that the genre can evolve without losing its essence. Crawba explains that the theme of the album is about making love and spreading positivity, emphasising that reggae is about unity, peace and upliftinging the soul”.

“It’s all about balance. We’ve got the veterans, the middle generation, and the new artists all coming together. It’s about love, peace, and showing that reggae is still here and growing,” Crawba said.

Reggae Alive is more than just a project—it serves as a reminder that reggae, at its core, is not bound by time. It evolves, adapts, and continues to inspire. With this album, Crawba Genius has not only helped to carry the torch of reggae’s rich legacy, but he’s also shining a light on its bright future.

Now available on all major platforms, Reggae Alive is a celebration of everything that makes reggae great: its rhythms, its messages and its ability to unite people across the globe. This project is living proof that reggae will never die; it will simply continue to inspire the world.
